QDMA COOPERATIVES |
The forming of a QDMA cooperative is made up of a group of landowners, farmers, hunters and members of the community are willing to work together to improve the quality of the deer herd, lessen crop damage, ornamental landscape damage while improving the overall hunting experiences. For an excellent publication that provides a step-by-step approach to forming cooperatives QDMA's booklet Developing Successful QDM Cooperative, go to www.QDMA.com. Many articles have been written in Quality Whitetails of cooperatives that are successful. If you would like to organize a QDMA Cooperative, contact E.W. Grimes, Director of the Maryland State Chapter QDMA. |

11/29/08 Chester River Co-op: (Comments by Temple) Congrats to Ron Coleman (below) for harvesting this 140 inch nine point on opening morning shotgun. Ron is one of the founders of CMF Hunting Club and has been a great asset to our success. It has been a tough six years following these QDMA rules to get where we are now, but now we are seeing tremedous bucks and plenty of them all thanks to the club members for harvesting tons of does and passing young bucks. We have been watching this deer on our cameras for a month. He left us for a while and we picked up pictures of him again the last four days before opening morning. We use these cuddeback cameras to educate our hunters and to give them the green light on certain bucks. This makes it very easy for our club to not make mistakes on smaller bucks that need one more year to reach maturity. We had four Shooters on this farm and three that are right on the edge. Thanks to cuddeback cameras less mistakes are being made. They have truly made our club a complete success! |

Green Scored 145 with a Broken G3 - Harvested 11-24-08 - Written by Dale Burley of Burley Outdoors. Thanksgiving is my favorite time of the year. It's a time we all get together to enjoy family, friends, and hunting. My brother, Blaine, and I were blessed to grow up in South Georgia on a 2000 acre farm. Our family farm is located in Irwin County and consists of primarily agriculture, pasture and timberland. We started practicing trophy management back when we were young boys. We decided at a young age that if we did not let our little bucks walk, we would not have any trophies. We have been practicing QDMA for over 25 years and let hundreds of young bucks walk. Our motto has always been "Let the young bucks go so they can grow." I am very proud to harvest such a trophy in Georgia, and especially on property that I manage. I credit my family and friends for the hard work and effort that it takes to allow a buck of this caliber to grow old enough to reach maturity. <<click here to read full story>> |

FIRST NEWSLETTER FROM CHESTER RIVER QDMA CO-OP - 12/29/08 Coop members and CMF Hunt Club members, This is a great article that supports everything that QDMA is trying to get across for doe harvest and button buck dispersal. Please send this to all of your hunting members and anyone else that you know to help support our cause and improve all of our hunting properties. This is the article that started it all for us at CMF Hunting and it greatly improved our success. CMF has followed this for 6 seasons and the proof that this works is out of seventeen bucks harvested in the coop so far, 13 have either been on CMF property or adjacent to CMF property. This program works unbelievablly!!!!! Article One - Article Two On an other note, We caught some kids on one of the coop properties poaching this week. Unfortunatly we could not prove they were poaching due to one truck getting away. This vehicle was a red or black Toyota truck jacked up with bigger mud tires. So keep a look out for this truck. We had the state police, Sheriff department, and Department of Natural Resources on the scene. We were able to get them on trespassing, crop damage, Towing charges, and the sheriff dept. got them on loud exhaust. The fines were over $2000. Hopefully this will detour this from happening again. Thanks, Temple |
January 2009 Kevin Cavanaugh from "Bitmore Hunting Club" harvested these two heavy horned bucks this season in our coop. One was 6 1/2 year old management buck and the other was a 5 1/2 year old scoring 146 2/8. Congrats to Kevin! |
Keys to a successful QDM Co-op: Communication - Compromise - Rules & Consequences - Patience You have to provide Herd Management, Habitat Management, Hunter Management & Herd Monitoring! Let bucks gain some age, increase available nutrition, shoot the right number of does and you are in business! |

Congrats to Jason for this 151 2/8 inch buck that he harvested this week. Jason has pictures and sheds from this 3 1/2 year old. We removed the jaw bone and aged this buck. He is only 3 1/2 and from the sheds he found this buck grossed around 117 inches last year. WOW this buck grew 31 inches in one year!!! Attached are pictures of the jaw bone next to a jaw age comparision. Also attached is pictures of the shed from last year inside the rack. Jason has pictures of this buck last year with a big scar on his back from someone shooting him with a arrow last year. He found this same scar on him when he harvested him. If we could all just learn to pass bucks and ask ourself this question , "WHAT WOULD HE BE IF I PASSED HIM AND HE GREW 31 INCHES NEXT YEAR!!!!!!! Thanks, Temple |
