"We can help with a QDM Plan" 1. Many farmers and property owners are faced with an ever increasing whitetail deer population. While in other areas deer populations have stabilized or declining, if your farm and or area is not one of these and are looking for a realistic deer management goal with a proven strategy, the QDM approach may be what's needed. 2. The Maryland State Chapter QDMA and QDMA Branches focus has always been on education, research and on-the ground management. The growing support of QDM within the state and the forming of QDM co-ops, have provided useful information. Record keeping of crop yields on QDM properties have shown increases while other properties have declined. See the chart below. 3. Population management started with doe management. With existing deer seasons and bag limits provided by the DNR, antler less management strategies are made reachable. 4. Hunter management is a critical yet often difficult aspect of deer management. QDMA members as hunters are rethinking what constitutes making a positive contribution to deer management. 5. Many landowner, farmers and hunters receive great satisfaction from the increased involvement with their deer populations that QDM offers. The first step is to contact the Maryland State Chapter QDMA. Call E.W. Grimes at 410-984-3356 or email at ewgrimes@marylandqdma.com for a overview of our management plan. |
THIS GRAPH REPRESENTS WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DEER MANAGEMENT PROGRAM CAN MAKE! THE BROWN AND GREEN BARS ARE PROPERTIES THAT SURROUND THE QDM PROPERTY WHICH IS REPRESENTED BY THE YELLOW BAR. THE QDM PROPERTY IS CLEARLY ABOVE THE REST IN CROP YIELD AND IS BEING MANAGED BY QDM. A DEER MANAGEMENT PROGRAM CAN MAKE THE DIFFERENCE IN CROP YIELD! 2007 HAD A SEVERE DROUGHT WHICH REDUCED ALL YIELDS THAT YEAR. |
